Shine Devon are a friendly group of adults with cancer who meet up once a month in Devon to spend time with other people who just ‘get it’. Our meet ups change monthly and we do a variety of activities such as, pubs, cafe’s, walks, craft, meals, etc. We’re run by volunteer Network Leaders who have their own diagnosis and we would love new people to come along and join us!

Meet Devon’s volunteer network leader, Charlie!

“I’m Charlie! I relocated to Devon in 2017 from the South East. I am married to a Devonian and we have a Cockapoo who is awesome. While cancer hasn’t given me all of the answers to life, made me stop worrying about the little things (annoyingly), nor any of the other clichés people expect me to conform to now, it did spur on our decision to move our lives from East London to a lovely small rural village of 1700 people in the middle of Devon. I wanted to start a Devon network to help plug the gap of community support for young adults who have had a cancer diagnosis in the West Country. I have attended the Great Escape which was life changing and want to help Shine to reach more people.

Meet Devon’s volunteer network support, Leanne!

“Hi I am Leanne, I live in Devon, and was diagnosed with bowel Cancer just after I gave birth to my second child in 2020. After the crazy journey of treatment and uncertainty, I stumbled across Shine and haven’t looked back. I attended Shine Camp, I was nervous and anxious about going but I’m so glad that I did as I was lucky enough to meet some truly amazing people who just ‘get it’. Shine has been an amazing support, I love being able to talk and vent to people who just understand. I joined as Devon network support because I wanted to help others in Devon have access to the same support that I received.
