Manchester & Cheshire

Shine Manchester & Cheshire is small but friendly. Membership is growing and they love new people. They meet once or twice per month for a range of activities like coffee and or cake, walks, bowling, pub socials and meals out.

Shine picnicThe Shine Manchester & Cheshire network began in 2016 and has been lead by Hannah since June 2018. The focus of our activities very much about having fun and feeling relaxed (we don’t need additional stress, right?!). If you’d like to get in touch, drop them an email on manchester@shinecancersupport.org and say hi!

Meet the volunteer network leader – Hannah

H, I am Hannah I was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma in 2014 and have been treated at both Salford Royal and The Christie. My treatment has included chemotherapy, stem cell transplant and radiotherapy.  Shine has been great at helping realise why sometime this stuff is challenging and not always ok, while also introducing me to lots of wonderful people. I now have many new friends who just get it!

Meet the volunteer network leader – Mari

Hi I’m Mari and I have been living with stage 4 bowel cancer since I was diagnosed in 2015 when I was 31 years old. I have had numerous operations, hundreds of cycles of chemotherapy and targeted biological therapy. After many years struggling with issues such as menopause, fertility issues and changes in my appearance I thankfully finally found Shine in 2020 and attended an online Break Out programme. They really were the light shining at the end of a long dark tunnel for me, as for years I hadn’t known anyone that could really relate to the things I was dealing with. Shine helped me meet lots of other people who were just like me, facing similar issues that I could talk to openly whilst also having lots of fun. I now look forward to helping others by volunteering in Manchester & Cheshire Network alongside the lovely Hannah.
