Jonathan Smith

Jon joined Shine in 2017 after taking part in our Great Escape in Bournemouth. He now oversees our fundraising and social media work, working to provide content across our social media that reflects the issues that young adults face, while also making them aware of Shines services.  He also supports all of our fundraisers, making sure that they know how much we value them!

Jon graduated as an actor in 2003 and later completed an MSc in hospitality and tourism management. He loves language, working with people, and the creative process. After experiencing cancer himself, Jon became passionate about ensuring that young adults get the support that they need, and he is particularly interested in reflecting the reality of life with cancer.

Jon is experienced in communications and relationships management and worked for 13 years in both market-leading and start-up organisations, as well on social media innovation with a digital media consultancy company. He’s worked across the non-profit and arts industries and is a passionate believer in the importance of arts to society.

who we are

Shine is led by Co-CEOs and governed by a Board of Trustees. We have also been lucky enough to have the support of a patron, Oliver Spencer, since 2014. As a patient-led organisation, we have a number of project-specific Steering Committees which include young adults affected by cancer.
